Goodbyes Are The Worst <3 Blank Slate Brewing Company

The Cincinnati Beer Scene has lost one of our best today. Well all of them to me are our best, but there was always something about Blank Slate that made me hold them a little more dear than other breweries out there. I always felt like they were the underdog or the hidden gem of Cincinnati beer. Whenever anyone asked me what brewery they should hit up when they were in town of course they knew about MadTree or Rhinegeist, but I always said Blank Slate was not to be a missed stop.

I can remember my first Shroominous, my first  Opera Cream Stout, my first Fork In The Road….All fantastic beers. Beers that made me love Blank Slate forever and always. Living North West of the city I didn’t get down there as much as I would have liked and now it makes this sting a little bit more.

Sadly today, without warning, Blank Slate social media went dark and we found out the worst possible news. They are shuttering their doors forever….

Right now the community is in shock of the sudden closing. No one has any information, which is weird, but I want to respect Scott and the rest of the Blank Slate crew and I’m going to wait to see what they say in time.

It started with a dream twelve years in the making…

In 2000, Scott left the corporate world behind to build a modest brewing facility from the ground up, mostly by hand.

We brew our beers by hand, without a lot of fancy computer controlled equipment.  We believe that the soul of a beer is created with your hands, not with technology.  Our focus is on creating unique beers that have a sense of time and place for the season in which they are brewed and the ingredients used to create them.  Many of our beers are seasonal and/or culinary influenced.

Create beers that were not just the same as everyone else.  Start from the ground up with no preconceived notions of what beer should or should not be.  Start with a Blank Slate.  Think Different.  Drink Different.  And do it all for the love of the craft.

So what does this mean to the Cincinnati craft beer community? Don’t let this happen again. Support your local breweries. Support the beer that you love.  Think Different.  Drink Different.  And do it all for the love of the craft. That’s what the Blank Slate crew would want you to do.

Cheers.
