I personally had never been down to the Cincinnati St. Patrick’s Day Parade although I sure as hell participated in the activities following it in the past! This year my girlfriend and I found ourselves with nothing to do on Saturday so we packed up and headed down to enjoy the parade! I was kind of bummed that the parade no longer went through the city and now was taking place at The Banks. I do, however, think that utilizing the park spaces and the easy to close streets probably ended up working out better.
The plan was to watch the parade go through The Banks at the Moerlein Lager House. As we arrived about an hour early I quickly realized any chance for an outside table with a view of the parade was going to be impossible to get. Being able to watch the parade with a beer in hand would have been awesome, but there was just no way to pull it off (although I did see some people sneaking small coolers to their watching spot). Maybe next year Moerlein can get a permit to allow beers over in the bier garden next door so people can line the overlook and enjoy a beer as the parade goes by. That would be awesome! We did get to enjoy a couple awesome brews at Moerlein before the parade started though and the atmosphere there was great! The patio downstairs was the place to be with it’s prime viewing location!
As we finished our beers we made our way down to the street and grabbed a seat as the parade approached. I would have never realized it was going to be so long because we had to walk through the staging area to get up to The Banks and it didn’t look to be really long, but I was mistaken! It was some good fun! Check out the photos below!
