The West Side of Cincinnati is getting a new brewery this weekend! This Friday June 30th at 2:00 pm West Side Brewing will open its doors on 3044 Harrison Ave. in Westwood officially for the first time! Right now they are holding down the fort in the area as Tap And Screw has moved their brewery to Madisonville. Last week I got the chance to check out the new digs and try a few beers and let me tell you, this place is pretty awesome!
The brewery has plenty of street parking and a small lot a little bit up the street. As I walked up to the front door I was met with their beautifully wrapped van that will be delivering tasty beer to the masses.
As I entered I was met with a very spacious front room area. Complete with tables for groups and TVs along the wall. There is a slight step up to the bar and then there is a “back” area complete with picnic style tables, giant Jenga and indoor corn hole! From this upper area you can see into the brewery as well. There is a lot of space for a lot of people with 13,000 square feet at their disposal! And rumor has it they also have plans for a rooftop bar! This place just keeps getting better and better!
West Side sports 30 taps which will be filled with not only their own brews, but guest beers as well. Have someone with you that isn’t a beer drinker? Never fear, they have wine as well! When I was there last week I had the chance to try their pale ale, amber ale, common ale and stout. They will have those four as well as a Scottish ale, session IPA, double IPA, hefeweizen and an ESB!
I’m sure you’ve made it to this point and you’re like “what about the beers man!” Well folks, I will tell you West Side is doing it right. They have some solid beers for just coming out of the gate. I think my favorite of the evening was their common which is totally 100% out of the normal for me. I’m typically a dark beer or IPA person. What’s awesome to me is they seem to have a no frills attitude when it comes to their beers. They just want to make great, solid beer without doing crazy stuff…although I wouldn’t mind if they went outside of the box. I’m sure you as well as I love to drink some crazy off the wall beers.
They are rocking a 15 barrel brewing system with a smaller two barrel system for test batches and experimentation. No word on what they want to play around with yet, but I plan on reaching out to the West Side team to see what kinds of beers they are planning on adding to their arsenal after they open. Stay tuned!
If you backed West Side on Kickstarter for a certain amount your name is emblazoned on their wall on their backer display. I am proud to say my name is up there with many other craft beer lovers here in Cincinnati. It’ll always put a smile on my face when I’m there having a beer.
West Side also put a lot of time and effort into some awesome branding. Their logo is nice and simple and it pretty much looks great on all forms of media. If anyone knows me I’m a sucker for brewery shirts so I am totally stoked I received one with my Kickstarter donation.
They open this Friday June 30th at 2:00 pm and their hours once they are open will be 4:00-10:00 pm Monday-Thursday, 12:00-1:00 am on Fridays and Saturdays, and 12:00-10:00 pm on Sundays. I am super stoked for West Side and I am happy to welcome them into our rapidly growing brewery community here in Cincinnati. Do yourself a favor and check them out this weekend.
